  EUROPE

BRUÉ, Adrien Hubert. [Wall map of Europe in 1844 once owned by Louis-Philippe, last king of France.]
Carte Physique, Routière et Politique d'Europe, d'après les Dernieres Traites de Paix. Paris: Charles Picquet, 1844. Original colour. Dissected and laid on linen, total 1250 x 1870mm. With red octagonal ink stamp with crown and initials "L.P".
A large format map of Europe, highlighting the boundary changes according to peace treaties. Recent years had seen Russia's gains from Persia in the Caucasus (1828), an independent Greece with Russia's increased territory in the Balkans (1829-32) and Belgium's borders (Treaty of the Eighty Articles, 1831). The ink stamp seems to be a variant of that of Louis-Philippe (1773-1850), the last king of France, who was forced to abdicate in the French Revolution of 1848. He spent the last years of his life in England.
[Ref: 14090]    £2,000.00 ($2,594 • €2,308 rates)
