FORREST, William. [A two-sheet antique map of Lanarkshire in fine original colour]
The County of Lanark from actual survey by W.m Forrest. Edinburgh New Town, William Forrest, 1818. Original hand colour. Folding map, dissected and laid on linen in two parts, total 1780 x 1280mm, in original red morocco slip-case, spine in compartments and lettered in gilt Some wear to slipcase.
A monumental map of Lanarkshire (now in eastern Strathclyde), on a scale of 1¾ inches to a mile, with a decorative title cartouche and a dedication to John Hope (1765-1823), Earl of Hopetoun, a Lieutenant General who took command of the British Army in Iberia after the death of Sir John More at the Battle of Corunna in 1809. A key and table of mountain heights are on tromp-l'oeil scrolls.

Linlithgowshire from actual survey by W.m Forrest. Edinburgh New Town, William Forrest, 1818. Original hand colour. Dissected and laid on linen, total 895 x 1295mm, with red morocco slipcase. Some wear; a touch of colour added, perhaps to mark the owner of the map's residence, slipcase very worn.
A 1½ inch-to-a-mile antique map of Linlithgowshire, with a decorative title cartouche and a dedication to John Hope (1765-1823), Earl of Hopetoun, a Lieutenant General who took command of the British Army in Iberia after the death of Sir John More at the Battle of Corunna in 1809. The map is extended in the east to show the New Town of Edinburgh.
