GARDELLE, Robert. [An 18th century prospect of Geneva]
Veue de la Ville de Geneve du coté du Septentrion. Geneva, c.1730. Coloured. 210 x 715mm. Repaired tears.
A panoramic view of Geneva from the north, drawn by Antoine Chopy after a painting by Robert Gardelle (1682-1766), a Geneva-born painter known for the speed that he completed his portraits. Engraved by J.G. Seiller, the view is usually found in Jacob Spon's 'Histoire de Genève. Rectifiée & augmentée par d'amples notes'. This example, printed on thick paper, lack binding folds, so appears to be a separate issue.
