Beautifully engraved map of SE Asia, the Philippines, etc, extending from Burma, Java and Sumatra to Papua New Guinea, Pelew, the Philippines and Hainan. Highly detailed regional map, one of the best regional maps of the area to appear in an English Atlas in the 19th Century. Pinkerton's elephant folio atlas is one of the best engraved works of the period.

Engraved by Neele for 'Pinkerton's Modern Atlas', issued in parts between 1809-14 and as a whole in 1815. The outline of Australia is nearly complete, but still with 'Unknown Parts' around modern day Cook Town in Carpentaria, and there is no detail away from the coast.
