Seutter's smaller double-hemisphere world map, richly engraved and with celestial spheres in the cusps. California appears as an island; Ezo is a large adjunct to Japan, with 'Campangie Land' just to the north; and Australia and New Zealand are partial outlines.

A fine map of the Americas, engraved for Seutter by Gottfried Rogg. California is shown as an island, and one of the two huge and elaborate cartouches hides the lack of information about the northwest. McCLAUGHLIN: 211, second state of five.

An uncommon small version of Seutter's map of North America, engraved by Lotter. The continent is compacted laterally, and California is depicted as an Island. Decorative cartouche with native Americans and birds.

An unusual later issue of Seutter's large map of Jamaica, here published by Johann Michael Probst, who had worked as an engraver for Seutter before becoming a publisher in his own right. Jamaica is shown divided into Precincts, and the large title cartouche shows natives harvesting the various products of the island, including sugar cane.

A decorative map of Asia, with two fine cartouches representing the wealth and culture of the continent. Both 'Yedso' and 'Companie Land' appear above Japan; Novaya Zemla is connected to mainland Russia; and New Britain is depicted in a squarish shape, exapnded from the southern coast mapped by Dampier in 1700.

Decorative map of south-east Asia from India to the southern coastline of Japan. To the south is the northern coasline of Australia, still connected to New Guinea by Carpentaria, with over thirty named features. The elaborate title cartouche has two themes: on the left is a missionary converting the natives; on the right are more natives offering exotic gifts such as ivory and coral as tribute to a personification of Europe, whilst Neptune gestures to the sea signifying European domination of it.

Antique map of south-east Asia from India to the southern coasts of Japan. To the south is the northern coastline of Australia, still connected to New Guinea by Carpentaria, with over thirty named features. The elaborate title cartouche has two themes: on the left is a missionary converting the natives; on the right are more natives offering tribute to allegorical figures of the Roman gods.

A finely-engaved map of China divided into provinces, with an allegorical title cartouche representing European trade with China. Originally published c.1730, this example was published by Seutter's son-in-law & successor, Tobias Conrad Lotter.

Imperii Magni Mogolis sive Indici Padschach. Augsburg, c.1730. Bright original colour. 505 x 575mm. Narrow top margin.
A map of the empire of the Great Mogol, covering northern India up to Kandahar and Kabul, with Bengal and parts of Burma. The two illustrated cartouches (for title and scale) and the vignette ship show the quality of the impression.

 Near East

An uncommon small version of Seutter's map of the Turkish Empire, published in the 'Atlas Minor'. It was engraved c.1744 by Lotter, Seutter's son-in-law, and published after he took over the firm.
