MYLLER, Angelicus Maria [Frontispiece from 'Peregrinus in Jerusalem']
Terraque Marique. Vienna & Nürnburg: Peter Conrad Monath, 1735. 180 x 135mm.
A frontispiece from 'Peregrinus In Jerusalem', the account of the 1718 journey of German monk Angelicus Maria Myller from Rome to Jerusalem then on to Troy, Gallipoli, Constantinople, Syria then back to Rome via Malta. This plate is a summary: it shows Myller riding a donkey into Egypt, with a bird's-eye view of the eastern Mediterranean behind, marking 'Caromania' (Turkey), Syria and Cyprus. 'Terraque Marique’ roughly means ‘by land and sea’.

MAS LATRIE, M.L. de. [Large and detailed map of Cyprus]

Large map of Cyprus, marking details as small as mills, ruins and tombs. Listed bottom right are ten maps Mas Latrie consulted while compiling this map. Jacques Maries Joseph Louis de Mas Latrie visited Cyprus in 1844-5 and published a three-volume History of Cyprus, Vol II in 1852, III in 1855 and, perversely, the first volume in 1862, in which this map appeared. Mas Latrie also published an account of the construction of the map in 1862: a PDF version is available at: http://www.persee.fr/web/revues/home/prescript/article/bec_0373-6237_1863_num_24_1_445868. IOANNOU COLLECTION: 84, 'the father of the medieval history of Cyprus'; See BANK OF CYPRUS: 150 for later state.
