DE WIT, Frederick.
Regni et Insulae Siciliae, typus correctissimus... Amsterdam: Covers & Mortier, c.1720. Original colour. 500 x 590mm.
One of the most decorative maps of Sicily, with inset plans of Messina, Milazzo, Palermo, Catania and Trapezo. De Wit originally published this map in 1680 but c.1690 re-engraved it with a corrected outline of the island, an altered title and a new title cartouche featuring Etna. After De Wit's death the plate passed to Pieter Mortier then the firm Covens and Mortier.
