ALLARD, Carel.
Novissima Totius Orbis Tabula, per Carolum Allard. Amsterdam, c.1683. Fine original colour. Map 500 x 580mm, with side panels pasted on, total size 500 x 900mm. A few small repairs.
A very fine 17th century double-hemisphere world map, with two further spheres in the cusps showing the two poles. The four corners are taken up with vignettes of the seasons, each with references to the Elements and the Zodiac. The side panels contain an extensive gazetteer, with a lettered key relating to the longitude and latitude grid. Carel Allard (1648-c.1706) did not issue an atlas until 1696 by which time he had replaced this map. SHIRLEY: 517, with a rarity rating of 'S' for scarce; however he does not mention these side panels.
[Ref: 18889]    £15,000.00 ($19,485 • €16,995 rates)
