Established in 1992 by Massimo De Martini, Altea gallery is one of the most trusted and respected antiquarian map galleries in the world. We strive to help our clients discover, explore, and acquire some of the finest and most varied, rare and exciting material that the map world has to offer.

Antique maps are truly unique objects. Not only are they beautiful pieces with individual character and style, but they represent our chequered history through the vagaries of time, wars, momentous discoveries and cartographical developments.
In 1995 Massimo led the “internet revolution” being among the first dealers in the map trade to offer a fully illustrated online map catalogue. We have always been very proud of this achievement, and as the leading force on the internet we became a point of reference for dealers and were copied many times over throughout the world.
As his business grew he acquired a shop in Camden Passage, one of the longest established London antique markets. Two years later he moved to a more central gallery space on Regent Street and more recently to the present location at the new “Altea Gallery”, in the heart of London’s Mayfair, opposite the Sotheby’s building.

Altea Gallery offers a wide selection of superb antique maps, sea charts, atlases and globes covering all parts of the world. Material ranges from the early printed maps of 1477 to about 1950; from miniature to large maps, atlas produced maps, antiquarian prints and separately published broadsheets.
It is often the case that unwary buyers are misled by erroneous descriptions, reproductions and bad quality items available from unscrupulous traders on the internet.
Altea gallery is a member of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association, the International League of Antiquarian Booksellers, the International Map Collector’s Society and the Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association. Altea Gallery are also co organisers of ‘The London Map fair’ – the largest of its kind in Europe, at the Royal Geographer’s Society in Kensington.
