Three charts of islands in the Canaries, Palma, Gomera and El Hierro, among the largest and most detailed maps of these islands of the period, showing the relief of the mountains with hachuring. One lighthouse is marked in colour.

Captain Vidal, a Royal Navy hydrographer, worked his way up through the ranks to become an admiral, and married the daughter of the British consul in Maderia.
