One of the first detailed maps of Tibet

A map showing parts of Tibet and Xinjiang in China, marking the route of Deasy through the region. Thus there are corridors of incredibe detail surrounded by large blank areas he did not survey. Marked on his route are Khotan (Hotan), Yarkand (once an important oasis on the SIlk Road) and Kashgar. This map was published for the Geographical Journal, house magazine of the Royal Geographical Society, who awarded Deasy a Gold Medal the same year for surveying nearly 40,000 square miles of the Himalayas.

Deasy was one of the first Westerners to write a detailed account of Tibet, 'In Tibet and Chinese Turkestan: Being the record of three years' exploration' (1901). He then became a pioneer of the British motor industry, driving a car non-stop between London and Glasgow in 1903. He formed the Deasy Motor Company n 1906, which evolved into Hawker Siddeley, which became part of Rolls Royce.
