A scarce set of four views of Edinburgh lithographed by William Westall from sketches made by Miss Mary Stewart (1773-1849) in August 1822, just prior to her marriage to The Reverend Sir Abraham Elton in 1823. Her views from the top of Calton Hill record the city during the visit of George IV, the. first visit of a reigning monarch to Scotland since Charles II's Scottish coronation in 1651. In the keys under each view, Mary notes the Royal Squadron in the Leith Roads and tents of the soldiers stationed on both Calton Hill and Arthur's Seat.
