A scarce bird's-eye view of Paris during the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1) illustrating the new defences built in expectation of the arrival of the Prussian army. Less than three weeks after publication the city was besieged, lasting until bombardment by heavy Krupps guns forced the city to surrender.
Alfred Concanen (1835-86) was an Irish lithographer working in London, regarded as one of the best of the period. He is best remembered for illustrating the covers of music sheets.
