A 'map-view' of Paris, with the major buildings shown in profile, with little consideration for perspective. Originally published in the 'Civitates Orbis Terrarum', the first series of printed town plans by Braun & Hogenberg in 1572, this example comes from the uncommon 'Townbooks' published by Jansson. There has been no attempt to update the 85-year-old plan, but the three figures dressed in 16th century costume have been removed from the bottom left foreground.
