Detailed map of the countries to the west of the Black Sea, including Russia, Moldavia, Walachia, Bulgaria and Romania, It extends from Larissa east to Isnik and from Chotym south to Volo, with insets of Schoumla (Shumen), the Bosphorus and Dandanelles. This covers the area of the Danube Campaign of 1853-4, during the Crimean War, in which the Russians pushed south through the eastern Balkans towards Istanbul, but, lacking local support and facing Allied pressure, they pulled back.
