Early Ptolemaic map of the British Isles, with Scotland orientated to the East. The borders of the trapezoid contain a serf, deer, a wolf and a lizard.
Published in Gastaldi's 'Geografia di Claudio Ptolemeo Alexandrino'. Although there was only one edition, early printings of some maps ( such as this example ) show an extra area of blank printing plate, almost like a handle, which was trimmed off in most examples.
