A very detailed chart of the English Channel, with various instructive illustrations including a wind rose and an astrolabe, compiled by Jean de Beaurain (1696-1771), geographer to Louis XV, and engraved by Vallet.
Originally published c.1760, this posthumous edition was issued at the time France and England were at war, with Louis XVI sending aid to the Americas rebels.
