Amundsen's route to the South Pole

HUOT, V.

La Découverte du Pôle Sud par Roald Amundsen. Société de Geographie Réception de M. Roald Amundsen. - Le 16th Décembre 1912.
Paris?, 1912. Wood engraving, printed in black and blue. Printed area 335 x 295mm.

Binding folds, corner of bottom left margin lacking.

A map of the route Amundsen took across Antarctica to his discovery of the South Pole in December 1911, with an inset showing his voyage to the continent. It was first published in the French edition of Amundsen's 'To the South Pole', but this version was an extract printed for Amundsen's lecture to the 'Société de Geographie'.
Although it also marks the expedition of Ernest Shackleton (1908-9) there is no mention of poor Captain Robert Scott, probably because the final resting place of his expedition was only found the month before this lecture.
