A mid-19th century map of London for German tourists

Vienna, 1846. Coloured. Dissected and laid on linen as issued, total 400 x 495mm.

A scarce circular map of London decorated with views of the new Houses of Parliament and Royal Exchange. The extents are Holloway in the north, clockwise to Poplar, the Isle of Dogs, Clapham, Chelsea and Bayswater.
Of interest is the inclusion of Chelsea Bridge which was as yet unbuilt and had only been authorised by Act of Parliament in 1846. The projected location of Lambeth Bridge is also marked but is unnamed, only being completed in 1879. Also shown is the Thames Tunnel which was started in 1825 and completed in 1842.
