An allegorical map of England and Wales, depicted as a hooded old woman sitting on a sea monster, carrying a trident. Anglesey is a dove sitting on her wrist and her feet are the Gower Peninsula. The Thames Estuary is the monster's mouth. The printed signature, 'J.B. Thornhill, Geldeston, Beccles', is the only clue to the artist.
