A few small repairs.

A map of the Rhine from Maintz south to Basle, orientated with north to the top right, published to illustrated the events of 1734, the second year of the War of the Polish Succession (1733-5). Down the sides are plans of the defences of eight towns, including Strassbourg, Manheim, Mainz and Philippsburg.
The most important event was the Siege of Philippsburg (June-July, 1734). On the map the Imperial fortress is shown surrounded by French lines, with the Imperial forces, under Prince Eugene of Savoy, gathered at a camp near Heilbronn. The map seems to predate the fall of Philippsburg on July 18th.
Johann Friedrich Oettinger (1713-1765?) was an Imperial military engineer who had several maps published (also by Homann). After his military service he turned to architecture: in 1738 he worked on the construction of Christiansborg Castle in Denmark; the following year he led the modernisation work on Frederiksborg Castle. In 1746 he went to Russia and worked maintaining fortifications in the Baltic provinces.
