An uncommon miniature of Wren's plan to rebuild London

A Plan of the City of London after the Great Fire in the Year 1666, with the Model of the new City according tothe design & proposals of S.r Christopher Wren K.t &c. for rebuilding thereof approved by the King.
London: Dury, 1764. Fine original colour. 115 x 220mm.

Trimmed into plate at bottom due to the size of the map, small repair on original fold.

A charming miniature plan of London, with the area devastated by the Great Fire coloured yellow, and showing Wren's plan for orderly streets and piazzas. Although 'approved by the king' the money for such his vionary project was never forthcoming.
It was published in Dury's rare pocket atlas, 'A Collection of Plans of the Principal Cities of Great Britain & Ireland, with Maps of the Coast of the Said Kingdoms, Drawn from the most Accurate Surveys, In Particular those taken by the late Mr. J. Rocque, Topographer to His Majesty'. This was designed as a companion to Dury's 'Universal Pocket Atlas'.
