A plan for a straight road from St Martin in the Fields to Great Russell Street, running north along St Martin's Lane into Monmouth Street, cutting across Seven Dials. Although motivated by the need to clear the notorious rookery of St Giles the plan was abandoned, leaving the Georgian layout of Seven Dials to survive until today.
This proposal was part of John Nash's scheme to clear the King's Mews at Charing Cross, the development that became Trafalgar Square. The buildings to be cleared are also marked here.
