A pre Captain Cook's discoveries map of the world on a polar projection. In the Southern Hemisphere the east coast of Australia is conjecturally joined via Tasmania, Espiritu Santo (Vanutu) and New Guinea, and Tasman's New Zealand is part of a great Southern Continent. In the Northern Hemisphere the mythical 'Mer de l'Ouest' and discoveries of de Font are shown in North America, as are Jesso and Companie Land above Japan.
This map, drawn and engraved by Moithey with lettering engraved by Herault, appeared in Etienne Andre Philippe de Pretot's 'Atlas Universel'.
