A map of northwest Africa from Libya in the Mediterranean south to the Gulf of Guinea and Nigeria, with the Azores, Canary Islands and Cape Verde Islands. Considerable detail is given to the tribes, kingdoms and slave forts. Inland Timbuktu is marked, with a guess at the route of the Niger, a century before Richard Lander solved the mystery.
The map also includes A box of descriptive text is located in the bottom left corner. From volume six of Châtelain's monumental 'Atlas Historique'.
