A 17th century map of Switzerland in superb original colour

Old ink numeral just outside plate.

A very fine example of the second state of Jodocus Hondius jnr's map of Switzerland, issued shortly after the plate was cut down, removing the original borders containing prospects and costumes.
The map is uncommon: it first appeared in the English edition of the 'Atlas Novus' in 1636 but was superceded by a new plate two years later. This example has no text, suggesting either a separate issue or an appendix.
