A French edition of an important map of Northern India

An early map of the Mughal Empire, covering northern India and extending to Kabul in Afghanistan. Top right is an approximation of the seal of Emperor Jahangir (reigned 1605-27), and roundels containing his name and his predecessors, including Timur, better known in the West as Tamerlane the Great.
This is a copy of a map by English explorer William Baffin, engraved by J. de His for Thevenot's 'Relations de divers Voyages Curieux'. Baffin drew his map after a chance encounter with Sir Thomas Roe, the first English ambassador to the Mughal court at Agra, where he spent three years.
