A large and decorative map of the Adriatic Sea from Mortier's issue of Jaillot's 'Atlas Nouveau', which redrew Sanson's maps in a larger format. In turn it was derived from the map of the region by Vincenzo Coronelli, the official cartographer to the Doge at the time that Venice was fighting to expel the Turks. The title cartouche features a miniature plan of Venice, surrounded by medallion plans of cities under the city's control in Italy and the Balkans. Excellent original colouring
