The first edition of this uncommon German antique map of the United States, published shortly after the 1783 Treaty of Paris gave the colonies their independence from Great Britain. The thirteen new states are marked in colour, but the map extends to show the Great Lakes and the course of the Mississippi. The title cartouche is a wreath surmounted with a stetson hat, giving the map its nickname.
