An early map of China, also showing Japan and the 'island' of Korea. A large title cartouche with exotic Chinese figures in full colour fills the gap top right, where the enigma of 'Ezo' was to confuse Europeans until the late 18th century.

A miniature map of China, orientated with north to the right. Japan and the Philippines appear, both unrecognisable. A second title appears outside the neatline. The map was published in 'Il theatro del mondo', an Italian pirate edition of the Ortelius 'Epitome' miniature atlas. First published in 1598, the publication was revived in 1655, forty years after the last edition of the Dutch original. KOEMAN: Ort 70.
