A map of the Indian Ocean in classical times after Ortelius, showing from Arabia to Indo-China, with insets of the North Coast of Africa and the North Pole. It was published in Volume VI of Jansson's 'Le Theatre du Monde', his atlas of the ancient world.
This map based on a description of Asia written by Arian, the Roman governor of Cappadocia AD 134, in turn using the accounts of Alexander's conquests as sources.
Jansson's maps of the ancient world were also published with a text by Georg Horn; these can be recognised by the lack of text on the reverse of the maps.
