A large and detailed chart of the Canary Islands, showing the relief of the mountains with hachuring. Inset details show Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Arrecife on Lanzarote. Lighthouses are marked in colour.
Lieutenant Vidal, a Royal Navy hydrographer, worked his way up through the ranks to become an admiral, and married the daughter of the British consul in Maderia.
