A fine example.
An important map of Russia, based on that of Anthony Jenkinson (1525-1611), an English merchant and cartographer who travelled through Russia and Persia 1557-60. Spread around the map are vignettes and anecdotes from Jenkinson's account, including a Kirgessen priest in a tree, sprinkling a mixture of earth, blood, milk and dung on his people, with bodies 'buried' in the woods behind.
This example was printed only three years after the first edition of the 'Theatrum Orbis Terrarum'.
