The Caspian Sea, with insets of local dress and a map of the port of Smyrna (Izmir), on the Aegean coast of Turkey, and a dedication to Admiral John Norris. Published in Aubry de la Motraye's 'Travels through Europe, Asia, and into Part of Africa'.
Despite being reached by Alexander the Great, the Caspian Sea was not mapped accurately until the Dane Carl Verden surveyed it for the Russians in 1722.
