It was first published in 1936, but this is example comes from the Third Edition, updated using information from arial photographs taken by the Inter-Services Topographic Department in 1943, during the Japanese occupation. This reprint of 1949 dates from the year the Chinese Communist Party completed their takeover of mainland China.
