A scarce late-18th century Italian pocket atlas

Venice, 1799. 8vo, contemporary half morocco gilt, with marbled boards; letterpress title with list of maps, 1pp text, 24 double-page maps (one folded), as called for.

Inner hinge strained at title; a few small stains.

Zatta's portable atlas, containing maps of the world, the four continents, the Ottoman Empire, four maps of Italy and two of France, the rest being other parts of Europe. The four maps added to this second edition are: France divided into the post-Revolution Departements; Switzerland; the kingdoms of Naples and Sicily; and the Partitions of Poland of 1773 & 1793 (the folding map).
Australia only appears on the double-hemisphere world map. Although New Zealand is shown according to Cook, the coast of New South Wales extends too far east.
