One of the earliest maps of South America

A map of South America after Ortelius's third plate of the Americas, which removed the extra bulge on the south west coast. A vignette of Magellan's ship, the Victoria, fills the Pacific (with a text copied from Ortelius's Pacific map) and a large Terrae Australis crosses the bottom of map. In the bottom right is a text describing Cabral's discovery of Brazil in 1500, calling it 'The Land of Parrots'.
The map was engraved by Johann Bussemacher for Quad's 'Geographisch Handtbuch'. A Latin-text version, 'Fasciculus Geographicus', was published in 1608.
