Milan: Giambattista Sonzogno, 1819. Three vols, original half calf gilt with marbled boards. Vol 1: pp. xlvii+253, with frontis. stipple portrait, 2 etched plates with hand colour & folding engraved map. Vol 2: pp.268, four etchings with hand colour. Vol 3: pp. 267, four etchings with hand colour.

Bindings scuffed, a little spotting throughout.

An Italian publication of Henry Ellis's account of William Amherst's embassy to China 1816-7, which was ultimately unsuccessful because of Amherst's refusal to agree to kowtow to the Chinese Emperor.
Sir Henry Ellis (1788-1855) published his authorised account in 1817.
