19th century English map of New Zealand

SOCIETY FOR THE DIFFUSION OF USEFUL KNOWLEDGE.

The Islands of New Zealand.
London, Charles Knight; 1844. Coloured. 410 x 340mm.

Despite being published six years after the first issue, the only change to this map of New Zealand is the publication line. The mapping remains that of the first state: on the North Island two mountain ridges run from Port Nicholson north-east towards the Bay of Plenty; Lake Taupo is yet to appear.
Later in 1844 Knight had the plate re-engraved, mostly reflecting the exploration of the North Island and Cook's Strait.
